How solar finance works in Scotland

Arranging solar panels and battery storage for your Scottish home should be straightforward and transparent. This page walks you through each step, from your first enquiry through to a no-obligation survey, a written quote and — if you choose to proceed — installation by our MCS-certified partner. Throughout the process, there is no pressure and no obligation.

The process, step by step

1

Tell us about your home

Start by completing the short form on our Get a Quote page, or call us on 0141 230 0198. We need a few basic details — your name, contact information, postcode and what you are interested in (solar panels, battery storage, or both). There is no commitment at this stage.

2

No-obligation survey

We arrange a survey of your property through our MCS-certified partner. The surveyor assesses your roof, its orientation and any shading, your electrical setup and your household energy use. This is the only way to produce a quote that genuinely reflects your home rather than a generic estimate. The survey is no-obligation — you are not committing to anything.

3

Your written quote

After the survey, you receive a clear, written quotation for a system sized to your property. If you are interested in spreading the cost, a representative example will be provided with any quote, showing the monthly payment, term and total amount payable. Loans available, subject to status. You can take your time to review the quote and decide whether to proceed.

4

Installation through our MCS-certified partner

If you decide to go ahead, installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is an industry-recognised quality standard for small-scale renewable installations in the UK, and using an MCS-certified installer means your system is installed to recognised standards of quality and competence. We install through MCS-certified partners for all paid installations.

Understanding your finance options

If you choose to spread the cost of your solar and battery installation, the finance details that matter to you — the monthly payment, the term, the APR and the total amount payable — are provided as a representative example with your quote. We do not display our own rates on this website, because the terms available depend on the lender, your circumstances and the specifics of your installation.

Loans available, subject to status. A representative example will be provided with any quote, so you can see the real figures before you decide. If you want to explore what monthly repayments might look like at different terms and APRs, our illustrative calculator lets you enter your own system price, deposit, term and APR to see an estimate. The calculator is not an offer of credit.

0% VAT on solar panels and batteries

There is 0% VAT on solar panels and batteries until 31 March 2027 for domestic installations. This applies across Scotland and the wider UK during that period. Your written quote will reflect the current VAT treatment, so the figure you see is the figure you pay for the equipment during that window.

Why we use an MCS-certified partner

We arrange surveys and quotes; installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme is an industry-recognised quality standard for small-scale renewable installations in the UK. Using an MCS-certified installer gives you assurance that the work meets recognised standards of quality, safety and competence — and that your system is installed by a contractor who has been independently assessed.

No pressure, no obligation

Throughout the process, you remain in control. The survey is no-obligation, the quote is written and clear, and you can take whatever time you need to decide. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics. If you decide solar or battery storage isn't right for you at this time, that's entirely fine — there is no obligation to proceed at any point.
