How the calculator works

The calculator uses a standard amortisation formula — the same type of formula used for most loan repayments — applied to the figures you enter. You enter the system price (the total cost of the installation you are considering), your deposit (which can be zero), the repayment term in months, and an APR you wish to compare. The calculator subtracts your deposit from the system price to give the amount borrowed, then calculates the monthly payment needed to repay that amount over the term at the APR you entered.

It also shows the total interest (the difference between what you borrow and what you pay back in total) and the total amount payable. These figures are illustrative — they show you what the maths looks like for your inputs, but they are not an offer of credit and do not represent the terms that will actually be available to you.

Why we don't pre-fill an APR

We deliberately leave the APR field empty. Pre-filling a rate could give the impression that the calculator is quoting you a real offer, which it is not. The actual rate available to you depends on the lender, your individual circumstances and the specifics of your installation, and those can only be confirmed through a quote. By entering your own APR, you can compare different scenarios and get a feel for what monthly repayments might look like at different rates and terms.

A representative example will be provided with any quote we arrange, so you will see the real terms — monthly payment, term, APR and total amount payable — before you make any decision. Loans available, subject to status.

What to do with your estimate

The calculator is a starting point. Once you have a sense of the figures that fit your budget, the next step is a no-obligation survey. We arrange surveys and quotes for solar panel and battery storage installations across Scotland, carried out through our MCS-certified partner. That means your installation is completed to recognised industry standards, and you receive a clear, written quotation based on your actual property rather than a generic estimate.

There is 0% VAT on solar panels and batteries until 31 March 2027 for domestic installations, which your quote will reflect during that period. When you are ready, you can request a no-obligation quote or call us on 0141 230 0198.

Frequently asked questions

Is the calculator an offer of credit?+

No. The calculator is an illustrative tool only. You enter your own system price, deposit, term and APR to see an estimated monthly repayment. It is not an offer of credit. A representative example will be provided with any quote. Loans available, subject to status.

Why is no APR pre-filled?+

Because the calculator is illustrative and not an offer of credit, we do not pre-fill an APR. You enter your own APR to compare scenarios. The actual terms available to you are provided as a representative example with your quote.

Can I use the calculator without entering a deposit?+

Yes. You can enter 0 as the deposit, or any deposit amount up to the system price. The calculator estimates repayments on the amount borrowed after your deposit is subtracted.

How accurate is the estimate?+

The calculator uses a standard amortisation formula on the figures you enter, so the maths is correct for those inputs. However, the actual terms available to you depend on the lender, your circumstances and your installation. A representative example will be provided with any quote.
